Open Badge Factory refreshes its Interface to improve usability

Open Badge Factory is introducing a new interface update designed to make the platform cleaner, clearer, and easier to use.

This is not a full UX or UI redesign. It is a focused update that improves the overall experience while keeping the platform familiar for existing users. The aim is to make everyday tasks smoother, simplify navigation, and give the platform a fresher and more modern feel. The planned changes include a platform-wide footer, a lighter dashboard experience, a reorganised admin menu, and clearer access to advanced features.

For organisations using digital badges and digital credentials at scale, these kinds of improvements matter. When key actions are easier to find and the interface feels more intuitive, teams can manage badge workflows more efficiently and with less friction.

A cleaner experience for everyday badge management

Open Badge Factory helps organisations create, issue, and manage digital badges, Open Badges, and broader digital credentials. That is why this update focuses on practical usability.

Rather than changing everything, this interface update improves the parts of the platform that users interact with most often. The result is a cleaner experience that supports day-to-day badge management without disrupting familiar workflows.

What is changing in Open Badge Factory?

The update includes a series of practical improvements that make the interface feel lighter, more consistent, and easier to navigate.

Cleaner admin navigation

One of the most visible improvements is the reorganisation of the admin menu. Sections such as Organisation details, User accounts, Badge content, Sub-organisations, Branding, API, LTI, PDF templates, Advanced settings, and Subscription are structured more clearly, while older sections such as Guideline and Deletion request are removed. The former “Pro Features” section is also renamed “Advanced settings,” which makes the menu easier to understand at a glance.

This helps reduce clutter and gives administrators a cleaner path to the tools they use most.

Better visibility into available features

Another useful improvement is the way premium or pro features are presented. Instead of simply blocking access with an unavailability message, the interface is planned to show these features in preview mode, with reduced opacity and a message explaining the service level required for activation.

This creates a more transparent and user-friendly experience while helping organisations better understand what is available in the platform.

A fresher and more modern look

The update also improves the overall visual presentation. Refinements to the top navigation spacing, reporting screens, issuer tools, and dashboard layout help create a more balanced and user-friendly experience, alongside the addition of a footer on every page of the platform.

For customers, this means a cleaner interface that feels more polished while still remaining familiar.

Updated guidance to match the new interface

Alongside the platform update, the knowledge base has been updated accordingly, including the OBF instructions.

This is an important part of the release. A cleaner interface is even more useful when guidance matches what users actually see on screen. Updated instructions help organisations onboard new users more easily, support internal teams more efficiently, and make the most of the latest Open Badge Factory workflows.

If you are using Open Badge Factory regularly, we encourage you to consult the updated knowledge base and OBF instructions to get familiar with the changes.

A practical step forward for Open Badge Factory

Open Badge Factory continues to evolve in a way that supports organisations using digital badges, micro-credentials, and Open Badges in real recognition strategies. This update is a practical improvement that makes the platform look better, feel clearer, and work more smoothly for the people who use it every day.

Open Badge Factory, now cleaner and easier to use

With this update, Open Badge Factory becomes clearer to navigate, simpler to manage, and more pleasant to use.

It is not a complete redesign. It is a thoughtful interface update focused on what matters most: helping customers work more easily in a platform that feels clean, modern, and intuitive.

And with the knowledge base and OBF instructions updated to match, organisations can move into the new experience with clearer guidance and greater confidence.
